Stafford Rangers eager to build on a rare victory
Stafford Rangers joint boss Alex Meechan is keen to build on last weekend’s win over Radcliffe.
Rangers moved level on points with 20th-placed Buxton in the NPL Premier Division thanks to that 2-0 win.
It ended a five-match losing streak in the league and the joint boss is now hungry for more as they bid to climb out of the relegation zone.
He said: “We just have to go and win football matches, that is the key to it.
“We never stopped believing, we lost confidence during that spell but we are now starting to see the rewards of the fight and desire within the dressing room.”
National League North side Kidderminster Harriers have a free weekend due to their early exit from the FA Trophy.
That 3-0 qualifying defeat to Curzon Ashton in November was John Pemberton’s final game.
And new manager Jimmy Shan welcomed the enforced rest as he puts his stamp on his new side after picking up his first win over Guiseley last week.
But Halesowen Town and Hednesford Town are still eyeing cup glory.
Halesowen Town take a break from Southern League Division One Central as they bid to stage a giant killing at National League North side Bradford Park Avenue in the first round proper of the FA Trophy this Saturday.
Hednesford striker Danny Glover and defender Ben Bailey will remain in charge for Saturday’s Trophy clash with Chester.
The duo steered the Pitmen to a 4-2 win over Hitchin Town on Saturday after Gary Hayward’s Buxton exit.
The midweek Southern Central Premier clash with Nuneaton Borough was postponed due to the weather.
And now Glover and Bailey are aiming to cause a cup upset by dumping National League North side Chester out of the FA Trophy.
Rushall Olympic will be looking to take advantage of Hednesford’s cup exploits by cutting the gap this weekend.
Seventh-placed Rushall are three points behind the fourth-placed Pitmen going into this Saturday’s clash at Lowestoft Town.
Elsewhere in the division, Stourbridge are poised to sign a striker as they bid to re-ignite their own promotion hopes.
The club are hoping to have a new forward before they host Kings Langle this Saturday.
Chasetown are aiming to end their winless streak in Northern One South East when they travel to fellow strugglers Wisbech Town this Saturday.
They last picked up three points in the league on September 10
But they beat Paget Rangers 1-0 in the Walsall Senior Cup and will be looking to build on that.
