Ten man Stourbridge sealed a win with a last minute goal from substitute Michael Taylor, but it was far from pretty.

Manager Ian Long is not finished with his team building and from the last two games it is fairly obvious they need more firepower.

He said : “It was a poor performance in a very scrappy game and we have to improve, which may mean bringing players in which I am still trying to do.

“We had to dig in and defend and we did that well, especially with ten men after Zac Foster got himself sent off

Stourbridge were defending a 1-0 lead for three quarters if the game after a Greg Mills free kick on 15 minutes found its way into the net off a home defender

St Ives almost immediately equalised when James Wren saved point blank from Danny Kelly.

Just before half time a last-gasp saving tackle from Ash Carter denied Ben Seymour-Shove who was bearing down on goal, but the former was injured doing so and had to be substituted.

Foster made the task of keeping the lead even harder on 55 when he shoved a home player off the ball and was shown a second yellow.

With a little more class, St Ives night have got the equaliser they were pressing for, although Wren denied them a couple of times.

And Taylor’s perseverance proved crucial right at the end when he scrambled the ball home to make it 2-0.

Stourbridge are at home to Bromsgrove Sporting on Saturday (3pm)
