Stourbridge 1 Rushall Olympic 1 - Report and pictures

Table toppers Stourbridge let two points slip from their grasp but still maintain a four point lead at the top after title rivals Kettering were held to a draw by Rushden.

The Glassboys should be grateful they didn't suffer a defeat as Rushall looked the better side after the break.

The Pics had plundered an eighth minute lead when Stourbridge failed to clear an Ashley Sammons free kick enabling Sammons a second chance to cross where recent recruit from Halesowen Town Asa Charlton was on hand to turn home at the far post.

Stourbridge soon struck back to level when Robbie Thompson-Brown delivered a wicked 15th minute free kick for Luke Benbow to net with a deft touch.

Stourbridge were then handed a huge let -off on the half hour when Rushall striker Dylan Parker beat defender Stuart Pierpoint for pace and was then brought down when clean through on goal - but Pierpoint escaped with a yellow card.

Rushall pushed forward in the second half and went close when the dangerous Danny Waldron skipped past defenders Pierpoint and Paul McCone but then blazed wide with only rookie Glassboys goalkeeper Niall Maher to beat on 71 minutes.

Two minutes later Maher saved Stourbridge with a top class save by diving low to turn a goalbound Waldron shot round the post.

In a frantic finish, Stourbridge's Greg Mills beat two Rushall defenders and crossed for Kaiman Anderson, whose shot on goal was deflected wide.

Rushall goalkeeper Adam Przybek then pulled off two stoppage time saves to beat out shots from Mills and substitute Chekaine Steele.

Then from the final move of the match, Rushall substitute Ben Lund just failed to connect with a right wing cross which went along the face of goal.
