Chasetown then were a whisker wide with a Will Whieldon free kick curling past the upright.

The hosts took the lead against the run of play in the 35th minute. A swift counterattack saw Callum Cockerill-Mollett slide an exquisite pass to Tom Hill who advanced into the box and drilled a low shot beyond Dylan Forth.

The league leaders levelled almost immediately with a goal from Kurt Sherlock low beyond Pond.

Chasetown were reduced to ten men when Jazz Luckie was sent off for a challenge.

Runcorn took the lead when Pond conceded a spot kick and Sherlock sent the keeper the wrong way for his second goal.

Chasetown saw red for the second time with Will Whieldon receiving his marching orders.

The Scholars ended with 8 men with Matty Hardiman also seeing a straight red card.
