Wolves Sporting boss backs 50-goal Tom Hill for move

Every manager wants a 50-goal striker – but Wolves Sporting boss Andy Paddock will be supporting his striking sensation’s bid to move on and make the big time.

Hot-shot Tom Hill hit the net 59 times in all competitions to help fire Sporting to a West Midlands League double and his scoring exploits have, unsurprisingly, attracted plenty of attention.

But while other clubs may be sniffing round and eyeing a potential swoop, the 22-year-old has designs on impressing another renowned marksman – Jamie Vardy.

Hill is set for a week at the England and Leicester striker’s academy, where he hopes he can catch the eye.

And Sporting manager Paddock will be there to cheer his player on.

“Tom is going to the Jamie Vardy Academy to train for a week and play a couple of games,” said Paddock.

“They will train at Manchester City’s academy and take part in games where scouts can have a look at them.

“He got scouted by someone from the academy and invited up. It’s normally only players from level four and above, but we were level six and I think Tom is the only player from that level that has been invited. It’s a great chance for him.

“I will be going up there to support him. I have told him to just go there, enjoy it and give it his best shot.”

Paddock has been delighted with Hill’s development during a season to remember and while he would love to keep hold of his prize asset, he won’t stand in his way if bigger and better things are around the corner.

“I brought Tom to the club from Shifnal and there were a few people who doubted him at the start but I just knew he had got something about him,” said Paddock.

“I knew he would come good. He has pace and I knew if we got the ball into the right areas he would score goals.

“He has got 59, and that’s more in one season than his previous three.

“We would be gutted to lose him, but I would love to see him go higher. And if he gets the chance you can’t stand in his way. I won’t hold him back.

“It was the same with Dan Westwood. He scored 100 goals in two seasons for us and there was plenty of interest in him and he went and played at a higher level.

“As a manager I want to win games and win things, but I also want to look after my players and you can’t stand in their way in they have the chance to go higher.”
