The depleted Pitmen could name only a 14 man squad for the game with two of those also carrying injuries - leading to manager Rob Smith handing Academy youngster Tom Wheeldon a debut up front.

Hednesford goalkeeper Jose Veiga was called into action in the sixth minute to deny Lee Shaw before a succession of corners and freekicks followed for the hosts.

The Pitmen’s first chance arrived in the 16th minute but James Lawrie’s freekick was easily saved.

Although Grantham were having plenty of possession and forcing the ball forward there was little in terms of chances on target.

Hednesford should have perhaps done better in the 39th minute as Reece King broke forward but he elected to cross instead of shooting.

The hosts would fire another effort over the crossbar in the 52nd minute before Lawrie fired in a shot which was beaten away.

It would be Grantham that would take the lead in the 63rd minute though when a corner wasn’t cleared and Stefan Galinski was left with a simple chance to tap home virtually on the line.

Veiga was forced into another save in the 75th minute before Hednesford’s Matt Curley sent a shot well over the crossbar seven minutes later.

Hednesford continued to press in stoppage time and King saw an effort go just wide of the post two minutes into it. They wouldn’t be denied though as with virtually the last touch Lawrie was able to flick the ball on to Glover who superbly headed home the equaliser.
