Sporting have Vase hunger

Boss Andy Paddock admits ‘greedy’ Wolverhampton Sporting are desperate to pull off another shock in the FA Vase tomorrow.

Sporting travel to United Counties League outfit Cogenhoe United for a fourth-round tie, having already beaten three teams from higher in the non-league pyramid to reach this stage.

Paddock and his players have completely rewritten the record books at a club which had never previously been beyond the first round.

And while the boss has made no secret the league and promotion remain their primary aims – he does not want to see their Vase adventure end anytime soon.

“We’re greedy,” he said. “The players have got a taste for success and we have already beaten higher-ranked teams in the competition.

“This is another great game for the club and I hope everyone who comes to support us enjoys the day.

“My focus is purely on the game. We go into every one looking to win and tomorrow will be no different.”

Victory would send Sporting through to the last 16 and in sight of a May date underneath the Wembley arch.

Yet they will be without skipper Angelo Franco, who misses the game through injury, while Daniel Lloyd and Dimitri Dunkley are also unavailable. Cogenhoe sit 15th in the United Counties League Premier Division but their most recent result was a 3-0 win at leaders Newport Pagnell Town.

“They are a strong team in a strong league who have reached this stage of the Vase before,” said Paddock.

“I was able to go and watch them a couple of weeks ago. They have been to watch us twice, so they probably know more about us than we do about them.”

Stourport Swifts also face United Counties League opposition in the fourth round, as they head to Desborough Town.
