The Cottage outfit beat Shifnal Town 2-0 on Saturday, with Kieran Cook and skipper Josh Jones getting the goals.

It was a much-welcome victory after a 6-1 drubbing by Wolverhampton Sporting the weekend prior and Gill said: “It was very good.

“The lads were immaculate so I am chuffed to bits.

“Kieran and Josh got the goals – both very good goals.”

The result leaves Wednesfield sixth in the league table having played nine games – winning five and losing four.

They were promoted from Division One as runners-up last season.

On how his charges have fared so far, Gill added: “We have played really well.

“I would say that there has been 90 minutes over the nine games that we have struggled a bit.

“Obviously this is different to Division One but our style of football is transferable and is working.

“We have lost four games but I have been really happy with the performances.”

Black Country Rangers kept up their hot streak at the weekend with a 3-1 home triumph against Dudley Sports.

They play at The Grove, Halesowen Town’s ground, and have won three in a row now – winning five, drawing two and losing one in total.

In Division One, table-toppers Team Dudley were handed their first defeat of the campaign.

They lost 3-2 at Old Wulfrunians, while, at the other end of the table, Willenhall Town’s winless run extended to six games as they were downed 3-0 at Wem Town.

Warstone Wanderers are leading the way in Division Two and trounced AFC Bridgnorth Development 8-0.

In the Midland Premier, Sporting Khalsa drew 1-1 at Bromsgrove Sporting.

Dave Meese got the goal for Ian Rowe’s side, who are ninth after seven games.

Lye Town were beaten 1-0 by Worcester City – their first loss this term.

In Division One, Stafford Town were handed their second straight defeat, although Ryan Pace got a brace in their 4-2 reverse against Atherstone Town.

Pelsall Villa are bottom of Division Two having picked up a point from five games.

The Bush Ground side were beaten 4-2 by Knowle.
