Hednesford Town aiming to build on first win of the season

Hednesford Town boss Neil Tooth is determined to make Keys Park a fortress after their first win of the Evo-Stik Premier season.

The Pitmen enjoyed a 2-0 victory against Halesowen Town at home on Tuesday night, with Devarn Green and Luke Rodgers on the scoresheet, writes Joe Edwards.

They welcome unbeaten Lancaster City tomorrow, and Tooth said: “I think you could sense the relief from everyone – I think it had been a while since the supporters had seen a competitive win at home.

“We are a new team, but we are a good team.

“We made four changes on Tuesday and changed the shape a little bit, and it worked.

“Our pitch is an absolute bowling green, it’s a great stadium.

“Teams raise their game coming here and Lancaster will – they are unbeaten and it will be a tough game.”

Hednesford’s aim this season is the play-offs, at least.

They have won one, drawn one and lost two so far.

Visitors Lancaster have won one and drawn three.

Tooth added: “We’ve got to make sure we play to a high standard at home as well.

“I am delighted for the supporters, they have been fantastic and we are looking to give them more to shout about over the season.”

Sitting pretty at the top of the table after four games are Stafford Rangers. They have won three and lost one so far and striker Dan Westwood is in fine form, having netted five league goals already – joint top of the league scoring charts with Stourbridge hitman Jordan Archer.

Boro will include fellow forward Richard Gregory in their squad for the long trip north to Workington.

Summer signing Gregory has missed the opening weeks of the season with a groin problem but is now fit to return.

Boss Neil Kitching is eager to curb expectations after their fine start and said: “It is still very early days and there is still no shape or rhyme or reason to the league.

“I’m pleased with the way we have started but we will not be getting carried away.

“Workington have been regulars in the play-offs over recent seasons and we know we are in for a very tough game.”

Also in the division, third-placed Stourbridge will be looking to clinch their first home win of the campaign as they host Marine.

The Glassboys, who lost 1-0 in the play-off final to Spennymoor Town last term, have two draws to their name at the War Memorial Ground so far.

Halesowen, who sit third-from-bottom, will look to get back to winning ways as they travel to Buxton.

Rushall Olympic, who had a thrilling 4-4 draw at Barwell on Tuesday, head to Farsley Celtic.

In the Evo-Stik First Division South, Chasetown will be hoping that the third time is the charm.

Having picked up a draw and a loss in their first two league outings under new boss Scott Dundas, they welcome Gresley to the Scholars Ground.
