Aston Villa 3 Fulham 1 - Player ratings

See how we rated the Aston Villa players in their win over Fulham.

Published

Emiliano Martinez

Saved smartly from Mitrovic early on but wasn’t seriously tested again. Left in a hopeless position for the goal by Mings’ underhit backpass and was rounded by Mitrovic.

Solid 7

Matty Cash

The right-back’s second match back since injury and he looked far sharper for it. Kept Lookman under control before the Fulham man was forced off. Had less trouble with Cavaleiro.

Lively 7

Ezri Konsa

Celebrated his new contract with the kind of steady, unflustered performance which has become his trademark. Always in the right place at the right time.

Cool 7

Tyrone Mings

Looked set to experience an afternoon to forget after a dreadful error gifted Fulham the lead. But then sparked the comeback by supplying the cross for Trezeguet’s equaliser.

Redemption 6

Matt Targett

Looked eager to impress against the club where he had a spell on loan. Always looks confident defensively but misses linking up with Grealish in attack. Still fired in some decent deliveries to the box.

Consistent 7

John McGinn

The most attacking of Villa’s midfielders, the Scotland international looked to get forward to support Watkins but his work lacked finesse at key moments. Fired over in the first half.

Indifferent 6

Douglas Luiz

Headed off target with what was probably Villa’s best chance of the first half. Booked early on when he was left with little option but to bring down Loftus-Cheek following a poor pass by El Ghazi.

Mixed 5

Morgan Sanson

Utilised in a deeper role than in previous matches. Showed plenty of effort but needs to be much sharper on the ball if he is going to be a success in the Premier League. Substituted after Villa fell behind.

Underwhelming 5

Bertrand Traore

Showed no shortage of work-rate but this looked like being another afternoon which passed the Burkina Faso international by until the late revival. Excellent work in setting up Watkins.

Sparked 6

Ollie Watkins

Cut a frustrated figure for much of the match as he toiled away up front with little coming off. The introduction of Davis relieved some of the burden and an 11th Premier League goal of the season followed.

Scorer 6

Anwar El Ghazi

Struggled early on as he misplaced passes and failed to make an impression on the left flank. Saw a shot blocked early in the second half but this was another underwhelming display.

Frustrating 5

Substitutes

Trezeguet 8 (for El Ghazi, 62), Keinan Davis 7 (for Sanson, 67), Jacob Ramsey 7 (for Luiz, 74)

Subs not used: Elmohamady, Engels, Taylor, Nakamba, Barkley, Heaton (gk).
