Aston Villa's John McGinn earns Scotland a point

Villa midfielder John McGinn scored a stunning equaliser to earn Scotland a point from their World Cup qualifying clash with Austria.

McGinn struck in the 85th minute with a superb bicycle kick to make it 2-2 in the Group F clash at Hampden Park.

The visitors looked lively early on and David Marshall made a couple of saves to ensure the game was goalless at half-time.

But Scotland Scotland fell behind in the 55th minute when Sasa Kalajdzic netted from the rebound after Marshall could not hold a long-range effort.

Scotland had a strong penalty claim inside 60 seconds when Christie was pulled over but nothing was given.

The hosts levelled in the 71st minute when Grant Hanley headed home Stephen O’Donnell’s long free-kick.

Kalajdzic headed home his second goal of the night with 10 minutes left to put Austria 2-1 ahead.

But Scotland fought back to level again with five minutes left courtesy of McGinn’s stunner.

Northern Ireland slipped to a 2-0 defeat away to Italy.

Goals from Domenico Berardi and Ciro Immobile settled the Group C clash.
