Tonight’s visit of Leeds is the second match in six days for which fans face paying £14.95 to see their team in action.

The Premier League’s decision to make behind closed doors fixtures not selected for TV broadcast pay-per-view has infuriated supporters.

Villa fans have been hit harder than most with at least three consecutive fixtures, starting with last Sunday’s 1-0 win at Leicester and including next weekend’s visit of Southampton, only available by paying extra.

Fan groups including the Villa Supporters’ Trust are now urging their fellow supporters not to pay the £14.95 charge and instead, if they are able, donate the cash to the Aston and Nechells food bank.

The plea is part of the wider #CharityNotPPV campaign which has seen supporters of every Premier League partner with local charities.

Newcastle fans raised more than £20,000 after boycotting last weekend’s clash with Manchester United, while Leeds fans have given more than £7,000 to the Leeds Fans Food bank.

Villa supporters wishing to donate to the Aston and Nechells food bank can do so by visiting the charity’s Just Giving page.
