The Cherries, recently relegated to the Championship, are considering a move for the striker after he netted 10 goals while on loan in the second tier with Stoke and Blues last season.
Hogan, who has scored the same number for Villa since joining in a £12million deal from Brentford in January 2017, is one of several players the club are looking to move off the books during the current transfer window.
The 28-year-old still has a year remaining on his contract but has not featured for Villa for more than 18 months.
Should Bournemouth firm up their interest with a formal offer, it could prompt Villa to enter the race for England international Callum Wilson, who is seeking an exit from the south coast club following their demotion.
But for now Dean Smith’s primary striker target is Brentford’s Ollie Watkins, though they face considerable competition from Crystal Palace for a striker valued at around £25m.
The Bees are expected to place a similar price tag on winger Said Benrahma, another player on Villa’s radar.
Villa held extensive talks to sign the Algerian winger last summer but eventually deemed what was then a £20m fee too high.
West Ham, Tottenham and several other Premier League clubs are now also keen on the 24-year-old, who looks certain to be playing somewhere in the top flight next season.
