The 24-year-old is on an eight-man shortlist for the inaugural prize after enjoying the best campaign of his career so far.

Grealish scored eight times in the top flight to help Villa avoid an immediate return to the Championship, including a crucial strike in their final day 1-1 draw at West Ham.

The Bodymoor Heath academy product also chipped in with six assists for Dean Smith’s team.

His rivals for the award include Manchester United attacking trio Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood.

Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold, Sheffield United goalkeeper Dean Henderson and the Chelsea duo of Christian Pulisic and Mason Mount have also been shortlisted. Nominees had to be aged 23 or under at the start of the 2019/20 season.

Voting for the award is open until 6pm on Monday, August 10. Supporters can make their selection here.
