Masseur Alex Butler, who previously worked at both Albion and Wolves,

received hundreds of messages of support from fans around the world when it emerged he had been admitted to hospital earlier this week.

Albion also sent a message of support for their former employee. In a message posted on Twitter last night, Butler’s sister Hannah revealed he had been making “positive steps” since being transferred to an intensive therapy unit.

The message read: “Massive thank you to everyone for the messages, which Al has seen!

“He has made really positive steps forward in the last 24 hours and is doing well and surprising everyone. Keep him in your thoughts.”

Butler, who works with Villa’s first-team players, is a familiar face around Villa Park and the club’s Bodymoor Heath training ground.

Earlier this week goalkeeper Pepe Reina revealed he had experienced symptoms common with the virus, though he was not tested for the disease.
