Dean Smith: Aston Villa wing-wonders have set standard
Dean Smith has called on wing duo Anwar El Ghazi and Trezeguet to keep hitting the heights as Villa prepare to face Wolves on Sunday.
The Villa boss believes both players raised the bar with their performances in last weekend’s 2-1 defeat to Premier League leaders Liverpool.
Egyptian international Trezeguet netted his first goal since a £8.75million summer move from Kasimpasa, while El Ghazi also put in an impressive showing.
Smith reckons those are the standards both players must look to reach in every match. Villa head to Molineux aiming to snap a two-game losing streak.
He said: “They are the levels I want them to know they have now. Those are the levels I want going into each and every game.”
The boss continued: “I was pleased for Trez. He will probably say it wasn’t getting to him but you could see there was an anxiety because it had been so long without a goal.
“Finally he has it and I thought it was deserved because his performance was really, really good.
“So too was Anwar. I thought our two wide players really stepped up to the plate.
“The work-rate from the team was a lot better. But that is our level now.”
