Aston Villa midfielder Conor Hourihane: Use win as launchpad

Conor Hourihane has urged Villa to use their thumping win at Norwich as a launchpad for when the Premier League resumes next weekend.

Dean Smith’s men will return to action when they host Brighton, aiming to record back-to-back victories in the top flight for the first time since May, 2015.

Villa won 5-1 at Norwich to record their second league win of the season and Hourihane believes it will have boosted confidence levels in the dressing room.

He said: “We felt we hadn’t got the points we deserved over the previous couple of weeks but everything just went for us at Norwich, we are delighted.

“Hopefully we can use it as a launchpad.”

The win at Carrow Road followed a frustrating few weeks which had seen Villa fail to beat Arsenal and Burnley despite leading twice in both matches.

It also lifted them out of the relegation zone and up to 15th in the table, a place and a point below Brighton.

“We felt a result like Norwich had been coming a little bit,” said Hourihane, who scored his first Premier League goal. “We felt hard done by over the last two weeks with decisions.

“Everything seemed to click and we were ruthless in front of goal. It was a fantastic team performance.

“I am delighted with the goal, of course. I was happy to be back in the team against Burnley.

“I thought we could have won that game as we played very well in the first-half but not so well in the second.

“At Norwich it just seemed to click and everything fell for us. We were just delighted with it all round.”
