Dean Smith resists urge for tactical tinkering as Aston Villa head to Arsenal

Dean Smith does not believe a tactical shake-up is required to get Villa firing as they prepare to visit Arsenal tomorrow.

Villa head south to face the Gunners having failed to score in their last two Premier League matches.

That includes last Monday’s 0-0 draw with West Ham when they were unable to break the deadlock despite playing the final 23 minutes against 10 men.

But boss Smith is confident his team remains on the right track.

“I am quite happy with the system at the moment and more importantly, the players are,” he said. “The system is working well and we will continue with that.

“If you are not creating chances, that is normally the worry. We have started creating them. The game against West Ham is the only game this season we deserved to win on expected goals. That is a game I feel we played well and should have won.”

Villa have lost their last six meetings with Arsenal but Smith said: “Any team is beatable. We saw that last week with Norwich City’s win over Manchester City.

“Any time you go head-to-head with a team, you must have the belief you can win. But we know how tough it is. We have a great belief in our players. We saw with our trip to Tottenham we can go toe-to-toe with these teams.”
