Neil Taylor backs overseas recruits to put Aston Villa on road to success

Neil Taylor reckons it is only a matter of time before Villa’s foreign legion have the club on the road to success.

Villa’s £127million summer spending spree included the recruitment several players from overseas with no prior Premier League experience.

But Taylor has been impressed by the quality of the new boys and believes that will soon come to be reflected in results, once they have all settled in.

He said: “It can be hard explaining it at times but these lads are all looking for new houses, learning to drive on a different side of the road and the language, everything that comes with settling in.

“There are a lot of them but they are committed lads who train hard every day. As I’ve said before, I think they are only going to get better.”

Villa's new boys include Brazilian striker Wesley, who joined in a £22million club record deal from Club Brugge. French full-back Frederic Guilbert and Brazil under-23 captain Douglas Luiz were also added to the squad.

Zimbabwe international midfielder Marvelous Nakamba was the last of Villa’s summer recruits to make his Premier League bow, after starting Monday’s 0-0 draw with West Ham.

Taylor added: “A lot of these foreign lads will never have seen a game with the pace of that.

“When you play abroad the pace of the game is never like that, end to end, basketball. It is all different to them.

“The standard of training is right up there because essentially we could put two good teams out there.

“I think everyone is vying for places and training in the week is crucial for you trying to get in the team at a weekend.

“Everything is at a high level and we are all pushing each other.

“As long as we are pushing each other like that it means we will get results and clean sheets.”
