Jota: Everton goal just the start for Aston Villa's £22million man Wesley

Wing ace Jota claims there is plenty more to come from Wesley now the striker is off the mark at Villa.

Wesley sends his finish past Everton's Jordan Pickford.

The club’s record signing bagged his first goal since a £22million summer move from Club Brugge in Friday night’s 2-0 win over Everton.

Spanish wideman Jota provided the assist and later revealed how he and Brazilian Wesley also share a close bond off the pitch.

He believes the strike against the Toffees was the first of many for his pal.

Jota said: “We are very close friends because we both speak Spanish and Portugeuse.

“I was really happy for him because I know he has worked hard. Friday was the first one and I think he will score a lot of goals.”

Friday night’s win, which also saw Villa pick up their first points of the season, came after Wesley had been criticised in some quarters for his performances in defeats to Tottenham and Bournemouth.

Jota claims the striker’s confidence never wavered.

“He was fine. He believed in himself,” he said. “He has changed league and changed country and I think he did well in the first two games but you are not going to score in every game. “He was happy and kept believing in himself. He knew he would score soon.”

Anwar El Ghazi scored late on to seal Villa’s first Premier League victory since February, 2016.

“For me the most important thing was to get the win,” said Jota. “I think the team performance was very good and will help our confidence.

“I don’t think we ever lost confidence because it was only two games and the performances were good.

“We were close at Tottenham to getting points. They were in the final of the Champions League and we did well but this is the Premier League and you have to stay concentrated all through the game.”
