Dean Smith's side will travel to Gresty Road in their first game of the competition this season as heavy favourites against the League Two side.

The game will take place on the week commencing August 26.

Crewe stunned Championship side Middlesbrough in the first round of the competition, beating Jonathan Woodgate's side on penalties having led 2-0 at half-time.

Villa were unceremoniously dumped out of the competition in the second round last season, losing 1-0 to Burton Albion.

West Brom and Walsall each exited the cup in the first round this season, with the Saddlers losing to Crawley, whilst Albion lost 2-1 to Millwall at The Hawthorns.

Wolves enter the competition in the third round.
