Goalkeeper Heaton sealed his £8million switch from Burnley yesterday morning, with the arrival of midfielder Nakamba in an £11million deal from Club Brugge being confirmed only hours later.

The Zimbabwe international has signed a five-year deal.

His signing took Villa’s spending since promotion past the £130million mark but boss Dean Smith remains eager to add another forward, with Brentford’s Neal Maupay a long-term target.

Otherwise, much of the club’s focus will switch to moving players out.

Villa released nine senior players early in the summer but none have departed since. Scott Hogan, Birkir Bjarnason and Lovre Kalinic are among those who will be allowed to leave if the club receive a suitable offer.

Winger Andre Green, meanwhile, has joined Preston on a season-long loan. Jake Doyle-Hayes has also departed for Cheltenham in a similar deal.

Rushian Hepburn-Murphy has headed to Tranmere - also on-loan.
