The midfield ace was named by players’ and supporters’ player of the season during a ceremony held on Wednesday night at Villa Park.

McGinn’s all-action performances mean he has become a major fan favourite since joining in a £2.75million move from Hibernian last summer.

The Scot has also been a driving force in Villa’s late season charge up the Championship table to claim a play-off spot.

But he was denied a hat-trick on prizes on the night by team-mate Jack Grealish who claimed the goal of the season award.

The skipper’s strike in last month’s 2-1 win over Rotherham topped an online poll ahead of McGinn’s volley against Sheffield Wednesday earlier in the season, as well as Grealish’s own volleyed effort in March’s 4-0 win over Derby.

Jacob Ramsey was named academy player of the season, while Amy West took the prize for ladies player of the year.

Winger Albert Adomah won the Aston Villa Foundation Contribution award for his work helping the charity.
