Aston Villa star Jack Grealish targeting a Stoke return

Villa are hoping to have playmaker Jack Grealish back in action by the end of this month.

It is believed the midfielder is being pencilled in for a return from injury for the trip to Stoke on February 23.

Grealish has been massively missed since suffering a shin injury in the derby draw with Albion two months ago.

Villa have struggled without him, winning just two Championship matches in his absence and also exiting the FA Cup.

The 23-year-old has been building up his training at Bodymoor Heath and boss Dean Smith last week said he was as progressing. Medics initially struggled to pinpoint to problem, but Grealish has reportedly suffered no adverse effects of stepping up his rehabilitation.

The boyhood Villa fan last night liked a report on Twitter highlighting the likelihood of a return to action at the Bet365 Stadium.

Meanwhile, Tammy Abraham says he thrives on the pressure that comes with being Villa’s leading goal threat.

The striker has netted 19 goals in 25 appearances since joining the Villans on loan from Chelsea.

But while Abraham now has the pressure of leading the line for Dean Smith’s side, he said it’s a job he is relishing.

“In football in general there is pressure,” the forward said.

“But that pressure drives me. Going into a game I have always believed in myself. So coming here, I expect myself to be at a certain level and to be able to perform. Growing up as a kid I always knew about Aston Villa in the Premier League. They unfortunately went down. But I have always been aware of the team and how big it is.

“And coming here has made me realise it’s even bigger than I thought. But I came here to do my job, to help the team, score goals and hopefully get promoted.”

Meanwhile, Abraham revealed Jack Grealish and John McGinn are the biggest jokers in the Villa dressing room.

“We have got a few jokers. Jack Grealish – which everyone is aware of, he has his funny moments,” the striker added.

“But we’ve also got John McGinn. They are definitely the two jokers in the team. What they do, we’ll keep to the dressing room!”
