Aston Villa assess fitness of injured pair

Villa are continuing to assess injured duo Jonathan Kodjia and Henri Lansbury ahead of Saturday’s crunch clash with Hull.

Kodjia has undergone treatment on the ankle injury which forced him to miss last weekend’s 3-0 defeat at Wigan.

Lansbury, meanwhile, is hoping to shake-off the tight hamstring which led to his non-involvement at the DW Stadium.

The 28-year-old midfielder has experienced frequent injury frustration over the past 18 months and been limited to only three appearances this season.

He missed more than a month after suffering a hamstring injury during the 4-2 derby win over Blues in November.

Lansbury returned for an encouraging substitute appearance in Villa’s 3-0 FA Cup defeat to Swansea earlier this month and was expected to play some part at Wigan, before experiencing his last setback.

Jack Grealish remains out until February, while boss Dean Smith remains hopeful Axel Tuanzebe could be back later the same month after undergoing surgery on a foot injury.

The on loan Manchester United defender, who was in the stands to watch Villa’s defeat at Wigan, has begun rehab work back at his parent club, but will return to Bodymoor Heath the closer he gets to full fitness.

Villa host Hull eager for a win to kick-start their Championship campaign after a run of just one victory in seven.
