Wolves begin their EFL Cup quest with a trip to Sheffield Wednesday, who beat Sunderland 2-0 on Thursday after the second-round draw.

Albion, who beat Luton Town 1-0 at The Hawthorns earlier this week, play hosts to League Two Mansfield Town in a bid to make the third round.

Meanwhile Steve Bruce's Villa make the short trip to the Pirelli Stadium to tackle Burton Albion.

Villa edged beyond Yeovil in round one while Burton prevailed at Shrewsbury.

League One Walsall welcome League Two new-boys Macclesfield Town to the Banks's Stadium.

Dean Keates's men made light work of previous League Two opposition as they eased beyond Tranmere in round one.

The first and second round fixtures are split into 'north' and 'south' regions, with all of the West Midlands clubs in the 'north' section.

The seven top-flight clubs in European action, including holders Manchester City, will enter the cup at the third round.

And after a rule-change pre-season, there is no extra time in this season's cup - any games level after 90 minutes go straight to a penalty shoot-out.

Wolves won 1-0 at Hillsborough last season thanks to a Ruben Neves winner.

Last season Wolves exited at the fourth round stage despite not conceding a goal during the competition.

Nuno's team beat Yeovil at home (1-0), Premier League Southampton away (2-0), Bristol Rovers at Molineux (1-0 after extra time) and then lost 4-1 at Manchester City at penalties after a 0-0 draw.

Wolves last reached the quarter finals of the League Cup way back in 1995/96 under Mark McGhee.

They have won it twice – in 1974 and 1980.
