Aston Villa secure loan deal for goalkeeper Andre Moreira
Aston Villa have completed the signing of goalkeeper Andre Moreira on a season-long loan from Atletico Madrid.
The 22-year-old is yet to make an appearance for the Spanish side, but has enjoyed temporary spells in his native Portugal with Belenenses, Braga and União Madeira.
He has also represented Portugal at international level with the U19s, U20s and U21s.
“I am very excited. It’s such a big opportunity at such a big club," said Moreira.
“It’s the perfect opportunity at the right moment. It’s a big move for me."
The talented shot-stopper, who is managed by super-agent Jorge Mendes, will rival Jed Steer for the number one jersey this season.
“Aston Villa is a great football club – a famous football club," he said.
"The training facilities are great. I know the stadium is famous and historic. I just can’t wait to get started now.”
His arrival is the first foray into the transfer market for new club owners Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens.
