Pre-season: AFC Telford 0 Aston Villa 3 - Report and pictures

The £11million striker chipped in with two goals against the Bucks and set up Conor Hourihane to complete the scoring.

Villa had a friendly at Kidderminster Harriers going on at the same time, which ended 1-1, but boss Steve Bruce opted for the New Bucks Head.

James Chester - who the club have rejected a £5million bid from Stoke City for - was in the starting line-up. Kodjia, Hourihane, Keinan Davis, Andre Green and Glenn Whelan were also among those in from the off, while the bench was made up of youngsters.

Ellis Deeney and Henry Cowans - both Villa academy products - began the game for Telford. The Bucks were kitted out in their blue away strip as they are yet to receive the home one from supplier Hummel UK.

Bruce's charges dominated possession in the early going. Speedy winger Green looked a threat whenever he got the ball and his deflected strike forced a fine save from Sheridan Martinez - who also kept out Kodjia's close-range effort in the 10th minute.

The Ivorian put Villa ahead soon after though, heading in from a few yards out.

Cowans, son of claret and blue legend Gordon, tried his best to pull Telford level before the break but his shot fizzed over the crossbar.

The only change from either side for the start of the second period was trialist Callum Preston replacing Martinez between the sticks for the Bucks.

Villa carried on where they left off, spraying the ball around with comfort for the most part.

The Bucks still had their moments though, most notably Andre Brown's left-footed drive being denied by the fingertips of Jed Steer.

As the game progressed, the substitutes came in their droves. In fact, Telford had made 11 changes by the 75th minute.

Villa flexed their muscles against the makeshift Bucks. Kodjia got his second of the afternoon, bundling the ball over the line after trialist Preston flapped at a cross from the right.

He then turned provider for Hourihane to lash into the roof of the net from just inside the box. With a three-goal advantage, Bruce decided to give youth a chance. Steer, Green, James Bree and Mitchell Clark were the only ones to feature for all of the friendly.

The difference in quality was obvious, but Gavin Cowan's National League North outfit were not embarrassed by Bruce's Championship team.
