Jonathan Kodjia to miss Ipswich clash

Jonathan Kodjia will miss Villa’s trip to Ipswich on Saturday with boss Steve Bruce refusing to take any chances over the striker’s fitness.

Kodjia has featured in the last five games since returning from long-term injury, making his first start in more than five months in Villa’s 1-0 win over Leeds.

But Bruce has revealed he will not travel to Suffolk, with the manager choosing to err on the side of caution after the 28-year-old complained of soreness.

Kodjia, Villa’s top scorer last season, has twice undergone surgery on fractured ankle in the past 12 months.

Bruce said: “It is normal, when you have had an injury like he has. He is a bit sore, just with the intensity of training and playing.

“If there is a grumble with him we won’t take any chances.

“It has just been the total of the last month, coming on in games.”

Bruce is yet to make a decision on the involvement of John Terry, who has missed the last two games with an ankle injury.

But the boss made clear he will not be taking any chances, should there be any remaining doubt over the skipper’s fitness.
