Hopes of a Premier League return still hang in the balance, with Steve Bruce’s team likely to finish in the Championship’s play-off positions.

But that has not stopped supporters signing up for next season in big numbers during the early bird sales window.

The number of new season ticket holders is up more than 40 per cent, while the number of junior season ticket holders has risen by 83 per cent.

Villa currently have just over 20,000 season ticket holders but will be hopeful of eclipsing that number for next term. The early bird window, in which prices have been frozen, runs until April 6.

Chief executive Keith Wyness said: “We are very aware of the importance of the claret and blue army.

“We have enjoyed big Championship attendances at home. Villa Park has been rocking and we’ve really got our swagger back.”
