Steve Bruce’s men got back to winning ways in dramatic fashion on Saturday, twice coming from behind before going on to win 4-2 against stunned hosts Sheffield Wednesday.

Cardiff's 1-0 win over Bristol City yesterday means Villa still trail the second-placed Bluebirds by four points.

And Grabban, who netted for the second time in as many games, said: “Hopefully we can go on a little run now.

“It was important to collect the three points.

“We needed it to keep the pressure on and make sure the gap doesn’t grow.

“We definitely want that automatic promotion place so it was important not to let the gap increase.”

Grabban scored to cancel out Sean Clare’s opener but Wednesday went back ahead when Lucas Joao headed home at a corner in first half stoppage time.

Glenn Whelan, with his first goal since November 2011, hauled Villa level for a second time midway through the second half, before late goals from Conor Hourihane and Robert Snodgrass saw Bruce’s men win for the eighth time in ten league games.

On loan Bournemouth ace Grabban believes the fightback was testament to the character and experience of the Villa dressing room.

“There’s a certain type of squad that gets promotion. Generally, it’s usually ones who have got a bit of experience and talent,” he said.

“If you look at our squad, nearly everyone has played in the Premier League. The majority have played for all of their career.

“The squad is capable of getting promotion.

“It’s just the mentality of winning games every week. Hopefully that will happen.”

Grabban had scored his first goal for Villa in last week’s 1-1 draw with Preston and went on to make his full debut for the club at Hillsborough.

The 30-year-old spent the first half of the season on loan at Sunderland and Saturday’s goal took his tally for the campaign to 14.

“Every game I just want to perform, work hard, and get into positions to score goals,” he said.

“We needed it as well because we had gone behind. We didn’t let our heads get down.

“We showed good character that we don’t let it affect us.”

Villa expect Alan Hutton to be sidelined for a few weeks after suffering a hamstring injury in the second half of Saturday's game.
