O’Hare, who made his first-team debut earlier in the season, has been in sparkling form for the club’s under-23s, smashing a hat-trick in a 6-0 win over Newcastle on Monday.

With Villa having fitness concerns over a number of key players, Bruce has hinted the 19-year-old could be included in the squad for Saturday’s clash with Sheffield Wednesday.

“He’ll get his chance. He might even get his chance tomorrow,” said Bruce. “He has been in and around it, in and around the subs and the team.

“The next step is to play in the team. When he gets his chance, I’m sure he’ll take it.”

O’Hare has featured on the bench on a number of occasions for Villa in the Championship, making substitute appearances at both Cardiff and Wolves.

He also started every game of the club’s Carabao Cup run and was recently rewarded with a new two-year deal.

His performances have also caught the eye of England under-20s boss Keith Downing and O’Hare has been placed on standby for the current squad.

“Well he’s been knocking on the door now for a while, the kid,” said Bruce. “He’s on standby for England under-20s too.

“We’re delighted with all the young players and I’ve said it for a long time now. Kevin MacDonald and the academy are producing some very decent youngsters which is always helpful for any club.”
