Boss Steve Bruce has praised Jordan Amavi’s attitude and claimed there has been no approach from Monaco for the Villa defender.

Last year’s Champions League semi-finalists this week became the latest club to be linked with the 23-year-old left-back, one of several players Villa have sought to move on this summer in a bid to avoid falling foul of Financial Fair Play regulations.

Amavi seemed destined to join Sevilla last month only for the transfer to break down at the 11th hour when the Spanish club claimed he had failed a medical.

And though his future remains very much uncertain, Bruce insists the France under-21 international has been the model professional.

He said: “Jordan hasn’t missed a day’s training since I walked through the club seven, eight months ago.

“I don’t know how many times he’s played for me. So this ‘failing medicals’ is beyond me.

“I don’t know what happened but it has left the boy in a difficult situation. But he has been very professional about it, he has got on with it."

Signed from Nice for £10million two summers ago, Villa would be aiming to recoup as much of the fee as possible for a player once regarded as one of the brightest young talents in the French game.

But with a month still remaining until the transfer window closes, Bruce is keeping an open mind.

He added: “At this particular moment we haven’t had anything from Monaco.

“Listen, if I have to have Jordan Amavi in the squad, no problem to me. I’m delighted. He’s a very good player.

“And a young one at that. It is just the size of the figures we are talking about. Part of my job is to balance the figures too. That would have been a big chunk to do that.”
