Youssouf Mulumbu 'lucky mascot' for West Brom

West Brom midfielder Youssouf Mulumbu today set the club a top-seven target – and revealed he hopes to be the Baggies' "lucky mascot" for the rest of the season.

Mulumbu believes Steve Clarke's side can climb the Premier League table after leapfrogging Liverpool into eighth place with Monday's 2-0 win at Anfield.

That victory took West Brom to within three points of their 40-point pre-season target and coincided with Mulumbu's return to domestic action after the African Cup of Nations.

And the 26-year-old said: "I am glad to be back and winning again because that shows me I am important for the team.

"I hope I am the lucky mascot and we will keep playing like that every week.

"We are in a great position to get to our target. We still need to focus on our target and I still think we can finish in the top seven. On Monday we won and we went up a place in the table.

"To have 37 points at this stage is not bad but we need to keep going to get our targets.

"It was great to be back on the pitch. I feel really good and I am pleased we won. It was a fantastic comeback.

"Before the game we were in a bad position so it was really important for us to win to end a bad run.

"We did it in great style.

"It was a good performance from all the team and the result was great for us because now we can focus and prepare for Sunderland at home."

Monday's game reunited Clarke's first-choice trio in the heart of midfield with Claudio Yacob and James Morrison both lining up alongside Mulumbu.

And the DR Congo international hopes the three can stay together after he shook off a knee injury to figure at Anfield.

"We have been unlucky, Claudio has been injured and I have been away, which has been hard on the gaffer," said Mulumbu.

"But my knee is totally fine now. I had a good shot on Monday and I didn't score, but it will happen soon."
