Wolverhampton-born Sam Morsy takes to the World Cup stage

Sam Morsy has come a Pharaoh way from the park pitches of Wolverhampton – taking to the field for Egypt in the World Cup in Russia.

The 26-year-old Wigan Athletic midfielder, who grew up in Chapel Ash, was a second-half substitute for the Pharaohs in their opening World Cup match, a 1-0 defeat to Uruguay, in Ekaterinburg.

However, the usual spelling of Morsy was replaced with 'Moursy' on the back of his shirt – the spelling used by his national side.

It didn't appear to worry the former Christ Church Junior School pupil who acquitted himself well.
