Ex-West Brom striker Lee Hughes joins Halesowen Town

Former Albion and AFC Telford striker Lee Hughes has returned to the Black Country – joining Evo-Stik Premier side Halesowen Town.

The Smethwick-born 41-year-old, who made his name at Kidderminster Harriers, left Worcester City last night where he had been player and joint manager.

Worcester said in a statement: “Player/joint manager Lee Hughes has left City, following a seven-day request being submitted from a club two leagues higher than ourselves.”

Halesowen confirmed the move online, welcoming the former Albion man to the club late last night.

"Halesowen Town Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of a new striker and ex-Baggies star this evening." Read their statement.

"Lee Hughes has agreed to join the Yeltz to bring a much needed boost to our forward line."

Hughes had two spells at the Baggies from 1997-2001 and 2002-2004, scoring 90 goals in 211 games. He scored 70 goals in 139 games for Harriers.
