The Bears still hold the advantage at the halfway stage of this County Championship match, but only just at 192 for five from 75 overs.

Oliver-Hannon-Dalby, recently awarded a new two-year contract at Edgbaston, claimed the final two Yorkshire wickets to fall before lunch, finishing with five for 76.

The Halifax-born seamer, who left Headingley in 2013, completed the fourth haul of five wickets or more in his career by forcing Patterson to chop on for 60 and bowling Ben Coad.

Opener Sibley then batted through from late morning to mid-evening to put the hosts under pressure, with his eight fours in 166 balls contributing to a season’s tally of 640 first-class runs with three centuries, before Patterson checked their progress as he claimed the wickets of not only Sibley but also Sam Hain and Matt Lamb.
