Brierley Hill's Kyle Spencer will box as planned on his hometown bill in Dudley next month with the fighters from his gym mucking in to get him ready in time.

Spencer nearly pulled out of the bill at the Venue on Friday November 9 due to work commitments, which were forcing him to miss midweek training sessions.

The 22-year-old has landed a job as a water engineer which requires him to travel to Scotland on Wednesdays and Thursday, putting a real strain on his preparation.

And 'the Style' will need his wits about him to handle wily Brummie Andrew Patterson, who boxed for the British Masters light middleweight title in Birmingham last night.

Stable-mates Chris Male, Jamie Ball, Steven Pearce and Riswan Rasool have their own fight dates but have volunteered to come in at the weekends to help Spencer.

Cradley's Male, Stourbridge's Steven Pearce and Dudley's Rasool are all on the Dudley bill, while Coseley's Ball boxes at Wolverhampton Civic Hall on November 30.

They are all based at Coops Boxing Camp in Brockmoor, Brierley Hill under trainer Shaun Cooper, who can see star potential when it comes to Spencer.

Cooper said: "I tell you something, Kyle will go a long way, he's one of the most naturally gifted kids I have come across.

"He uses all of the ring to pick his shots and he doesn't get hit a lot, he's really coming good as he's learning.

"We were worried about his training but the lads want him on the show with them, so they are helping him.

"They have gone out of their way to make sure he's ready for this fight, it's not self, self, self in our gym.

"Our lads have the weekend off and who wants to come in for sparring on Saturdays and Sundays?

"Nobody does but sparring is what Kyle needs the most and it's going brilliantly."

Pearce has been matched with Aaron Fox, from Westbury in Wiltshire, who Spencer outpointed on his pro debut last October.

Cooper is expecting a tough test for 'Fierce Pierce' against the durable Fox, who he commented has a "head like a brick."

In the main event, Male will eagerly battle with Leeds' Josh Warrington for the vacant English featherweight title over 10 rounds.

The punching postman has already seen two contests for the belt with Joe Murray and a clash with Jon Fernandes called off before fight night.

With the title - which hasn't been competed for in six years - still up in the air, 'the Male Man' and Fernandes will risk their unbeaten records.

Tickets are available now and the event is a dinner show, but passes can also be purchased just to watch the boxing at £30.

For the three-course meal, tickets are £60. For more information, call the Venue on 01384 453 104 or 07964 722 736.
