Stafford's Rob Hunt today vowed to put his best foot forward and show Arek Malek how he's improved in a fight that has been two years in the making.

Hunt was first due to box Poland's Malek at Wolverhampton Civic Hall in March 2010, but was pulled off the show in the week leading up to fight night.

Now the 26-year-old welterweight will finally get the chance to put his wits against the tough Pole, 34, at the Stanley Matthews Sports Centre in Stoke.

Saturday night's duel on the grounds of Staffordshire University precedes Hunt's next fight date, at the Queens Theatre in Burslem on November 24.

A corporate dinner show at the Fenton Manor Sports Complex on December 14 could be his last ring assignment of a year where Hunt has only boxed once.

Drawing with Lee Quinn left Hunt crying foul for what he claimed was a win fair and square, but the hard work has gone on with trainer Lyndon Newbon.

Hunt said: "I feel fit as a fiddle and my trainer told me he has never seen me move my feet so much, it's hard to get near to me in the ring.

"In the past, I have been standing still, I wouldn't be finding angles to punch and I would let my opponent close the gap - now I won't.

"Malek is strong, he can take a shot and is your typical Polish fighter, hard as nails! But I am not going to get into a fight with him.

"I will box him, use my long arms for the jab and get the rounds under my belt, the ring rust has built up over these past few months."

Hunt has suffered frustrating periods of inactivity since his unbeaten pro record went up in smoke with a defeat in his first title fight.

Ben Lawler dropped him three times in two rounds of a sixth-round stoppage in November 2010 and Hunt has competed just twice since.

He said: "Things happen in boxing but my record is not bad, I have had my learning fights and, after this, I am ready to go for titles again.

"I am doing eight to 10 rounds of sparring in the gym already and I have always been fit and dedicated, I will never change.

"After I have got these fights under my belt, it's straight on to next year, I will fight on New Year's Day if they ask me to!

"I have been around watching lads at my weight box and I know I would have their number."
