Andreas Weimann backs Villa to improve

Striker Andreas Weimann today dismissed fears over Aston Villa's form and insisted they can turn their wretched results around.

The forward is confident they can arrest their slide after six straight defeats following Sunday's 2-1 loss to Tottenham.

Weimann ended his side's 547-minute goal drought by opening the scoring but Spurs drew level through Nacer Chadli before Harry Kane's late winner.

Villa go to West Ham in the Premier League on Saturday and Weimann insists that they are not in trouble.

"No, it's not nice to lose six in a row because in the end we have we played well," said the 23-year-old. "We showed we can play football and we are a good team.

"We need to go out and get a win – or just a point, something – and it will turn around again.

"There wasn't much more we could have done and we just need one game to go our way and we'll be alright again."

Sunday's defeat was compounded by Christian Benteke's second-half red card after he pushed Ryan Mason in the face.

The Belgium international will miss Villa's next three games and Weimann knows he will be missed.

"In the first half and at the start of the second he was brilliant. We will miss him but I'm sure we have other players coming back to fill in for him," he said.

"Of course, we can't change (the fact) he got a red card. We have to look forward to the next game.

"Everyone who watched the game will know how hard we worked and we played good football

"I can't really say anything on the sending off because the game went on. I didn't see what happened so I don't know. I was just focusing on the ball.

"Obviously the game changed because they had more of the ball but I think we still looked quite solid at the back."
