Ashmore's 91 helps snooker league leaders deal with the pressure
Karl Ashmore hit a break of 91 to keep Hotshots on top of the Staffordshire & West Midlands Snooker League.
Ashmore's break was the highest in Division One this week as they edged out third-placed Landywood 3-2 in a match that went down to a decider.
After Ashmore and Callum Downing (57 break) had put Hotshots 2-0 up, Landywood levelled through Robbie James and Dave Turner.
And in that decider, Wayne Robbins kept his cool to deliver the victory for Hotshots.
They are level on points at the top of the table with Wednesfield Cons, who defeated fourth-placed Baggeridge Social Club 3-2 in a hard-fought match where several frames could have gone either way.
Oliver Spooner (56), Andy Price (32) and Joshua Walker (32) were on target for Wednesfield, before Maria Catalano and James Hill both won points for Baggeridge on the final blacks of their frames.
Pennfields won a relegation battle as they defeated Poets Corner 4-1 thanks to Simon Thomas (46), Lee Holder, Jon Bate and Colin Reade, while Stafford Institute B are still searching for their first win as visitors Charlemont Bowling Club won the battle of the bottom two 3-2 - Milan Krstanovic, Chris Compton and Phil Bellingham (41) winning it for Charlemont.
And there was a high-quality match at Sedgley Ex Service as they went down 3-2 to Shifnal.
Simon Hickman's 43 break made it 1-0 to Sedgley, which looked like becoming 2-0 when Toby Smith made a 44 break in the next frame. However, John Fallows made a 31 break of his own and won on the black to level the match.
A 57 break from Martin Coffey Junior put Shifnal ahead and Matthew Davies won the next and the match for Shifnal, before Andrew Highfield took a consolation frame for Sedgley.
Rich Haney made a 47 break in his first match for three-and-a-half years, but Sedgley WMC were edged out by Hotshots, while Landywood C moved closer to the relegation zone after losing 3-2 against Stafford Institute - Matt Hyden taking the decider.
