West Mids snooker round-up: Defending champions Landywood B suffer shock Inter Town defeat

Defending champions Landywood B suffered a shock defeat against Halesowen in the first round of the Inter Town Championship.

Steve Mason won the opening frame for Halesowen, before Landywood surged into a 3-1 lead through Gary Miller, Riley Parsons and Adrian Rosa. 

Ben Wakeman won on the black to halve the deficit, and Jason Jenns and Mark Sheehan emerged victorious to complete the turnaround for Halesowen. 

2023/24 champions Oldbury also faced elimination after they were fell to a 4-3 defeat to Shrewsbury despite holding a handsome advantage. 

Ross Corfield made a 47-break to give Shrewsbury the lead, but Neil Beckley, Mark Ganderton and Callum Downing took the next three frames for Oldbury. 

Callum Wright made a 43-break to kick-start the comeback, which was duly completed by Mike Beasley and Tom Hancher. 

Stourbridge secured progression with a 5-2 triumph over Telford courtesy of winning frames from Ashley Aston, Justin Donoghue, Lee Mallen, Rob Clark and Chris Jeavons. 

Last year's runners-up West Bromwich stormed into a 4-0 lead through Daniel Ward, Mark O'Neill, Milan Krstanovic and Scott Compton, before avoiding a late scare when Jenson Kendrick, Robert Wharne and Graham Sheridan won the final three frames for Stafford. 

Elsewhere, Nathan Wood made a 59-break (the highest in the division) to guide Stafford B to a 5-2 victory over Stafford B, while Gornal B lost against Bridgnorth B by the same score-line. 

Wolverhampton A, Wolverhampton B and Sedgley B also emerged as 5-2 victors to reach the next round. 

In Division One, Hotshots climbed to the league summit after beating Sedgley WMC courtesy of Callum Downing, Jamie Brown, Karl Ashmore and Paul Deaville. 

Wednesfield remain level on points with the leaders following a 3-2 win at Landywood after Dan Ward prevailed in the deciding frame and Hotshots B romped to a 4-1 triumph against Shifnal B.

Elsewhere, Baggeridge Social emerged 4-1 victors over Landywood C, Pennifields came from behind to beat Charlemont Bowling, and were replaced in the relegation zone by Poets Corners, who suffered a 5-0 whitewash to Sedgley Ex Service.

Beaconsfield cruised to a 4-1 win over Charlemont B at the top end of Division Two thanks to Billy Lanham, Craig Crossley, Callum Wraight and Mike Beasley. 

Poets Corner enjoyed a 4-1 win over Codsall Firs and Essington moved out of the relegation places with a 4-1 win against fellow strugglers Poets Corner D. 

Bilston Bowling Club B roared to a 4-1 victory over Electric and Q Bar Juniors beat Codsall Firs B by the same score-line to sit as two of the four teams locked on 28 points at the top of Division Three. 

Goodyear moved into second in Division Four thanks to back-to-back 3-2 wins over Aldridge Cons and Fordhouses Cricket Club. 

Division five leaders Forty Four C beat Forty Four A 3-2, as Rugeley Snooker Club stayed level on points with a 4-1 win over Forty Four B.

In the Individual Championship, Mitchell Lowbridge, Tom Maxfield, Richard Davies, Alan Hathaway, Ben Wright and Luke Higginbotham were among the victors.
