Striker who scored on debut before West Brom release in 2024 could be set for EFL return after goalscoring form
Youngsters released by Albion have taken different paths in recent years.
Many of them headed to non-league and one of those was Jovan Malcolm, the striker who broke into the Albion first team squad.
He joined Albion at the age of six, rising up through the ranks at The Hawthorns before Carlos Corberan handed him his senior debut in an FA Cup replay against Chesterfield.
And he grabbed the chance with both hands, as he netted on debut.
He was then targeting further first team appearances and it was hoped that he could make the grade.
But it didn't quite happen that way for Malcolm.
He had scored two goals in five first team appearances - but was released alongside a host of other young talents last summer.
He rocked up at National League side Gateshead and penned a two year deal.
After a slow start to the campaign - he went on to net nine goals with eight of them coming since February.
And that form in the second half of the season has seen Malcolm attract the attention of EFL clubs.
According to reports, a number of clubs in the EFL are tracking Malcolm who has one year left to run on his deal.
