Youngsters given chance to impress Ryan Mason as Nat Phillips makes West Brom bow in Port Vale friendly
West Brom's first official pre-season game is set to take place next week against Dynamo Kiev in Austria.
Or so fans thought, as it was confirmed on Friday that Albion were to take on League One side Port Vale in a behind closed doors friendly.
Vale, managed by Albion legend Darren Moore, were set to visit the Albion training ground for the clash.
It provides Albion boss Ryan Mason with the first opportunity to get a look at his players ahead of the new campaign.
And he named a strong side for the game with regulars such as Darnell Furlong, Torbjorn Hegem, Alex Mowatt and Karlan Grant all featuring.
Daryl Dike also started the game alongside Tammer Bany, while there was a run out for forgotten man Gianluca Frabotta, seldom used under both Carlos Corebran and Tony Mowbray last season.
Nat Phillips was thrown in for his debut following his arrival from Liverpool - while two young talents were given a chance to impress from the off.
Kevin Mfuamba started the game along with Harry Whitwell, with the exciting midfielder looking to build on his appearance in the final game of last season against Luton Town.
