Mat Sadler’s approach key to Mason Hancock’s Walsall signing
Mat Sadler’s ambition to sign young and hungry players was key to Mason Hancock’s decision to join Walsall.
The 22-year-old became the third addition of the summer this week when he signed a two-year deal at Bescot Stadium.
The versatile defender, who plays mainly at left wing-back, but can play as a centre-back, joined after his contract ran out at Airdrieonians in the Scottish Championship.
And when asked why he joined Walsall in his first interview as a Saddler, he said: “I first heard about the interest here in December. Looking at the league table back then it was different to how it ended.
“Nothing ended up happening in January. We have always been in touch right up until my contract ran out.
“It is the way the gaffer talks and the fact he wants to bring in young players that are hungry and really kick them on.
“Everything he wants this club to stand for I feel I fit right in.”
