Walsall complete first summer signing

Published

Walsall have completed the signing of Courtney Clarke from National League South side Eastbourne Borough on a two-year deal with the option of a further year.

The club have agreed a compensation package with Eastbourne after the player turned down a new contract offer this summer.

He will officially become Walsall's first summer signing when his contract at Eastbourne expires on July 1.

Clarke, who predominantly plays as a right wing-back, scored three goals and set up four more to earn Eastbourne's Young Player of the Season award last term.

His impressive performances played a key role in helping Eastbourne finish third, just a point behind champions Truro City.

The 22-year-old spent time with West Ham United, Stoke City and Derby County at youth level, working under Manchester United and England legend Wayne Rooney with the latter.

Clarke also previously starred for South Shields in the National League North, scoring twice in 36 appearances.
