The 33-year-old will take on his first full-time senior gig in the managerial hotseat at the Hawthorns next season after penning a three-year deal last week.

Mason succeeded Tony Mowbray who was sacked on April 21 and becomes the youngest manager at the club in over 123 years.

He described Albion as the perfect fit and has been pleased with how smoothly talks unfolded between himself and the board.

"My season only finished the best part of 10 days ago, so not that long," the new Baggies boss said,.

"In terms of smoothness, it has gone well. I spoke to chairman Andrew Pearce, there's been people on the board and we've had a lot of dialogue and met in person.

"The feeling has just been good. You know when something feels right and that's certainly been the case here.

"The time feels right for me personally to take on an opportunity like this. At Albion, I already feel like it's a good fit and I can't wait to get started."

Mason added that he wants to instil a winning mentality within the camp and feels that the fans can have a big role to play in helping them achieve that.

"Hopefully a winning side. That's the ambition, that's the goals always," he continued.

"I think most importantly, a team that's together in every moment. It's really important that we tap into the fans because I know the fan base here is incredible.

"It always has been. I felt it as a player here and we want to create a team that has a connection with the fans and everyone at the training ground needs to feel part of something."
