Walsall looked back to themselves with a solid performance off the ball and were clinical in the key moments in attack as they won 2-0 at Chesterfield.
It felt as if the purpose of taking Alfie Chang and George Hall off in the second half was to keep them fresh to go again on Friday and both are likely to prove key for the Saddlers.
Chang was a particular standout. His composure on the ball brings a different dimension to Walsall's game and his ability to screen the defence provides the back-line with extra protection.
That has been a crucial factor in helping Walsall rediscover their defensive solidity, with back-to-back clean sheets for the first time in 2025, and three shutouts from their last four in total.
