The former Wolverhampton Grammar School pupil carded a first-round five under par 66 to finish two shots behind leader Wu Ashun.

Rai, whose only blemish was a bogey on the 17th, was one of 13 players tied for third place.

Two-time European Tour winner Wu fired a bogey-free 64 to lead the way but England’s Chris Wood, who had set the target at six under in the morning, was just one shot behind him.
