Halesowen's Jordanne Whiley and Japan's Yui Kamiji recovered from a slow start to win the Wimbledon women's wheelchair doubles for a fourth successive year.

They secured a 2-6 6-3 6-0 victory over the Dutch pairing of Marjolein Buis and Diede de Groot on Court Three as the final day of the championships began.

Whiley, who suffers from brittle bone disease, has established a highly successful partnership with a player she describes as her "bestie".

It was Kamiji who hit the winning forehand down the centre of the court as Whiley joined men's doubles winners Gordon Reid and Alfie Hewett in being a home wheelchair champion.

Whiley, 25, returned from a long wrist injury absence to partner De Groot at the French Open last month, and they lost in the semi-finals to Buis and Kamiji.

The switch in partners for Wimbledon resulted in a familiar result at the All England Club.

Whiley, who hails from Halesowen but now lives in Middlesex, said: "This is by far the most special to me because I've been out for eight months, struggling with injury. I haven't played with Yui for a year now, and I really did try my hardest. Diede and Marjolein are such a strong team. I'm so happy."

Asked why the partnership clicked so instantly when it resumed, Whiley said in an on-court interview: "That's easy. She's my best friend. I'd do anything for Yui.

"I would try my hardest for Yui and I know she would do the same, and that's what makes it such a special doubles partnership."
